Restorations

Making over your mouth:

No restorative case is too complex or too big for our competent team

True to our name, Integrated Family Dentistry believes that this journey of oral care is a “team sport.” Led by the talented and knowledgeable Dr. Mercedes Del Valle, we partner with individuals of all ages and from all walks of life in the Eugene, Oregon, area to preserve their natural, healthy, and functional smiles. To do this, Dr. Del Valle sometimes must perform restorative procedures. This is just one of many areas where her skill and passion for lifelong learning shines; she offers numerous advanced ways to repair damaged teeth and tissues. For those teeth and tissues that can’t be saved, she can rebuild them in ways that are indistinguishable in form and function from the “real deal.”

Getting to know restorations

The term “dental restoration” generally refers to a carefully selected material prepared and designed to replace a part of a tooth that cannot be preserved due to irreparable damage. Options include:

  • Dental fillings for cavities
  • Dental inlays for larger cavities
  • Dental onlays or partial crowns, a conservative alternative to full crowns
  • Dental crowns, which may follow root canal therapy to save a badly damaged tooth and avoid dental extractions, and can be made in just one visit with CEREC onsite technologies

Options like dental bridges and dentures also restore the aesthetics, function, and healthy structure of the teeth. However, they are designed to replace the whole tooth (or teeth, as needed). Dr. Del Valle is proud to offer so many alternatives for tooth replacement from her office. These options include a variety of different dentures, as well as bridges and dentures that are stabilized by dental implants in the jawbone. She provides complete implant care, so once the implants have been positioned and secured in the bone, the replacement teeth are not going anyway – they function as tooth roots to hold the prosthetic in place.

Beyond teeth repair

Integrated Family Dentistry also restores the health of the gums and other supportive structures that protect the teeth. As needed, Dr. Del Valle may recommend periodontal therapies to repair and regenerate damaged gums. Sophisticated and non-invasive therapies are also available to restore the “bite” or relationship between the opposing upper and lower teeth. As appropriate, she may recommend clear aligner therapy or other oral appliances. Restorative dentistry means a lot of different things. Often, the need for restorative care can be avoided entirely.
